Trivia – Olive Oil from Mallorca
The valley of Soller is home to a special variety of olive, well known for its high oil content and its golden yellow olive oil. The Moors recognised the value of this olive variety and named the valley of Soller, the Golden Valley. This later developed into the current name, Soller, derived from the Arabic word for gold (suilar). The traditional preparation of this olive oil can be observed in the oil mill, ‘’Ca’n Det’’ in Soller; one of the last remaining oil mills in Mallorca.
